BALLON d'Or winner, Karim Benzema, in an exclusive interview, explained his decision to leave Real Madrid and join the Saudi pro league.
The Real Madrid legend made it known that his decision to leave Madrid for Saudi Arabia was not based on money, despite signing a €200 million-a-season contract with Al Ittihad.
In a recent interview, the France international explained that he wanted to leave the club on a high and didn’t want to join any club that had a possibility of playing against Real Madrid.
“My decision to go to Saudi Arabia was also because I wanted to leave Real Madrid on top,” Benzema revealed, per Fabrizio Romano “And I didn’t want to ever play against Real Madrid in my life.”
“Florentino Perez was the first person I called when I decided to leave Real Madrid. He didn't quite understand... I told him that the young stars, Vinicius and Rodrygo, were ready.”
Benzema joined Real Madrid in 2009 and has helped the team win various trophies, including the Champions League trophy, La Liga, Copa del Rey, La Liga Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
