ATLETICO Madrid boss, Diego Simeone has hailed France's international and club forward, Antoine Griezmann for his excellent performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 31-year-old was, no doubt at his best, as France made their way through the World Cup games down to the finals which they lost to newly-crowned champions - Argentina in a penalty shootout. Griezmann was, at first, criticized for being selected to represent the France national team, but the player was bold enough to prove them wrong.
Simeone was impressed with the player's performance, saying “You have to go back and remember seven days before the World Cup, how he played in the first game [in the Copa del Rey] we had. He did it with the same dedication, the same commitment.
"Antoine always wanted to be here. He regained the affection of the fans; [on] the field [he] speaks, and it is a good image for his teammates, wanting them to reach an important level. He is an extraordinary player despite the fact that many, many, thought otherwise."
Griezmann has long returned to Atletico Madrid, where he has recorded six goals and eight assists in 23 appearances, and could be in contention to appear against his former club, Barcelona on Sunday.
