Rodri names his Ballon d'Or candidate

EURO 2024 winner with Spain, Rodri, has named his preferred candidate for the Ballon d'Or, noting he would want a Spanish player to win the Ballon d’Or.

Spain were crowned champions of Europe in Germany after they defeated England 2-1 in the finals yesterday as Rodri was named Player of the Tournament.

His back-to-back performance with Manchester City and Spain has made the player a top contender for this year's Ballon d'Or accolades but the player has someone else in mind.

When asked about his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, Rodri said: “I’m going to be honest, I would like for a Spaniard to win it, I don’t care who. It would be great.

“I’ve heard that [Real Madrid’s Dani] Carvajal also deserves it. From an individual standpoint, I’m very proud of what I am doing and the recognition I’m getting.”

The last Spaniard to win the prestigious award was Barcelona legend Luis Suárez who won it in 1960. He was the first and only male Spanish-born player to win the Ballon d'Or.
