FOLLOWING the rains in Lagos in the early hours of today, Monday, September 12, 2022, some houses and streets in some parts of the Alimosho LGA have been overtaken by flood waters; areas affected include some parts of Obadore and Igando.
Recall that the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) had last week called on state and local governments to intensify and step up efforts toward averting flood-related disasters in their domains while noting that 14 LGAs in Lagos have so far been affected by flood disasters, with many casualties, further warning of more flooding as the nation is in the peak of flooding season up to early October.

A resident of Obadore who regularly experienced flooding in her house said she had to leave her house last month, and relocate elsewhere as it became flooded. the young mother also says it is a 'normal' experience for her.
Meanwhile, some landlords in Obadore have opted to help themselves by increasing the level of their frontage such that the waters only remain on the streets and do not gain entry into their homes.
Another respondent who lives in Egbeda, and had her house flooded this morning at Hon. Olufemi Adebanjo (Godilove) street, says it is due to the road and the structure of the compound she stays in.
"I will not say it is as a result of the bad road, because even the compound I am staying in has its own fault because of the way it was built," she lamented.
The Director-General of NIHSA pointed out that virtually all the flood incidents were caused by the overflow of silted rivers and poor drainage systems as a result of localised rainfall that generated flash/urban flooding in the urban areas and metropolis.
