THE Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Comr. Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, in partnership with YIBA, has celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with a call to action for young girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The event, which was recently held at the council's Secretariat, was attended by students, teachers, and dignitaries from within and outside the LCDA.
The event, themed; "Unpacking STEM Careers - HER VOICE IN SCIENCE," provided a platform for young girls to learn about the opportunities and challenges in STEM fields.
The Executive Chairman, Comr. Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, who was represented by the Vice-Chairman, Hon. Mrs Mojisola Badmus, encouraged the young girls to be determined and work hard to achieve their goals, emphasising the importance of education and the need for girls to pursue careers in STEM fields.
On his part, the Council Supervisor for Education, Hon. Isiaka Obabiyi, reiterated the council's commitment to promoting education and empowering women and girls. He encouraged the girls to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to pursue their dreams with determination and hard work.
The guest speaker, Engr. Mrs Nimot Muili, A Civil Engineer specialising in sustainable infrastructure solutions and advisory services charged the young ones to always be encouraged in the STEM field while being humble. She shared her personal experiences and challenges, inspiring the girls to pursue their dreams despite obstacles.
“The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the Executive Chairman and Vice-Chairman in recognition of their efforts in promoting education and empowering women and girls within the LCDA and beyond.
