THE transformative work of Comr. Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, the Executive Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, has set a remarkable precedent in the realm of youth empowerment. In recent months, an impressive cohort of about 5,400 students has graduated from a comprehensive vocational skills acquisition programme. This initiative has provided two months of training across 18 diverse vocations, enabling participants to develop essential skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Akinsanya’s approach to youth empowerment goes beyond mere training; it is rooted in a vision that recognises the importance of practical support for success. By equipping young individuals with the necessary tools and resources, he has laid a strong foundation for their entrepreneurial pursuits. Notably, selected top-performing students have received specialised assistance, which has positioned them for remarkable achievements in their respective fields.
The resources included tools for plumbing, machines for tailoring, gas cylinders for culinary arts, generators for barbers, mobile gas cylinders for aspiring chefs, and bags of rice for local food vendors. These initiatives not only meet the unique needs of vocational participants but also enhance operational capabilities, ensuring they can hit the ground running as they embark on their careers.
