CONCERNED people of Igando and Egan, two sub-communities under the Igando-Ikotun LCDA, have shown displeasure about the alarming numbers of beggars who assemble everyday on the roadsides at Igando to seek arms from pedestrians and motorists.
As of Thursday, yesterday, at the time AlimoshoToday.com was at Igando, over forty beggars were sighted, some of them being women and little children. All of them are Hausas.
Speaking to some people in the area, and who were quick to express their displeasure, one Mr Adeniyi of Moshalashi Road, Egan, said "This is not good at all. These people (beggars) come here everyday and sit there from morning till night. No one has challenged them, and the government is just looking. They should stop them or at best let them go back to their homes in the north.
"It is an eye sour. We Yoruba people are accommodating, yes, but at times, we are careless. In the name of what should we accommodate this?"
"Igando Beggars Assembly; and it will get worse and this is not good for us", said Babafemi, a student of the Lagos State University and who lives on Agric Road.
"The government should help us do something about it. If people here react, they will say it is because of the tribe. The government is the only one who can help us attend to the matter. Those innocent little children should be in school and nobody is looking into that. This also tells that there are serious problems in the country", he added with an expression of genuine concern.
