IN commemoration of the year 2022 tree planting day, the Executive Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Comrade Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya has urged the residents of the council area to plant trees, for a sustainable environment, adding that planting of trees would ensure a healthy and beautiful environment for residents.
The council boss made this call during the celebration of the year 2022 tree planting day on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Osunba Street along Igando Road, Church bus stop, Igando by 10 am.
While speaking at the event which was tagged ‘In Harmony with Nature’, the council boss said; “The wrong doings in the environment have become worrisome issues and the local government is getting increasingly concerned.
“It has, therefore, become expedient that everyone must join the current face of environmental regeneration.
“Please join the crusade to sustain a healthy environment for future generations by beautifying and enhancing the aesthetics of your tenements and the environment.
“Residents should clear tertiary drains in front of their tenements and desist from dumping refuse into the drainage channels and water bodies.
“They should desist from indiscriminate burning of refuse and plant trees at every given opportunity.’’
He also appealed to his constituents to always endeavour to partake in the yearly exercise so as to preserve the legacy laid by the former governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Fashola.
Akinsanya then reiterated that the government is committed to the tree planting campaign, hence people should continue to embrace its noble objectives.
On his part, Hon. Apena Olatunji, the Supervisor for environment, thanked the people for gracing the occasion and prayed for more participation in the subsequent edition of the annual event.
Present at the event were the Executive Vice-Chairman, SLG, Comrade Alani Babatunde , Leader of Igando-Ikotun LCDA Legislative arm, Hon (Prince) Dauda Adeyemi Gbadamosi, other Councillors, Council Manager, Mr Odeleye S.B, the management staff of the LCDA, Nulge chairman, Comrade Arowosafe Adesina Chinoyen, HRM Oba Dr. Nojeemdeen Abidemi Aberejo (Alakesan of Akesan Land, HRM Oba Gbadamosi L. A (Onigando of Igando), HRM Oba Gbadabiu Asiwaju (Onikotun of Ikotun), amongst others.
