Rema becomes Guinness World Record holder

The singer was recognised for securing the number one hit on the world’s first regional streaming chart and first-ever official chart in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

NIGERIAN singer and rapper, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has joined the list of Nigerian artistes to have entered into the Guinness World Book of Records.

The Benin-born artiste entered the Guinness Book Records as the first artiste to top the inaugural Middle Eastern and North Africa (MENA) with his single Calm Down, which was released in February 2022 ahead of Rema's debut album Raves & Roses.

According to the statement by Guinness World Records, Rema was recognised for securing the first number one hit on the world’s first regional streaming chart and first-ever official chart in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), which was launched by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) on November 29, 2022.

Earlier this year, the song topped the Indian Music Industry Chart, while also setting a new record as the highest charting African song on the Billboard Hot 100, with a number six entry.

It also stands out as the most viewed Afrobeats song on YouTube.

The 23-year-old now joins the ranks of Femi Kuti and Wizkid as Nigerian musicians with World Guinness records.
