Following the unrestrained acts of burglary, arson and looting which have characterised Ikotun-Egbe and Isheri-Olofin areas of Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Alimosho Local Government in the last two days, residents have narrated their experience and also spoken about their fears.
After major police stations have been sacked and policemen reportedly assaulted, with some thugs wearing police uniforms in unverified videos circulating on social media, some horrendous acts have been carried out in Ikotun and Isheri-Idimu, including an attack on the Council Secretariat.
Some residents have began to recall what they experienced on Thursday on the streets and in their homes.
At Feyintola Street in Ikotun, a street away from Twins Faja Supermarket and Foodcity which were both burgled and looted yesterday, a resident who only wants to be identified as Gift, told AlimoshoToday: "It was a day of panic, fear and trauma."
Foodcity, Ikotun under attack as hoodlums moved in en masse, making away with expensive goods"We heard that Twins Faja was being robbed and everyone tried to be on guard, staying indoors at about 3:00pm.
"All of a sudden, some hoodlums chased away a vigilante who tried to prevent them from looting shops, and he ran into our compound. It was not a joke oh. He ran into our apartment, but we pushed him out.
"Everyone locked their doors and the man was in the lobby with the main door locked and the hoodlums counting from 1-10 for him to come out, or they would break the door open and raid the entire compound.
"At last some men in the compound bailed out the man from them and they left. They appealed to the hoodlums, as the man in question said he was not a vigilante and was just going about his own business peacefully," Gift narrated.
In Isheri-Olofin where the Council's Secretariat was attacked, a resident, Mr Ojerinde Babatunde, recalled: "We were all afraid. This thing is getting out of hand. They are robbing everywhere. No place is safe. No police station to report to. We just hope that things get better."
When contacted concerning the attack on the Secretariat, the Council Chairman, Honourable Sanyaoolu Olowoopejo said he was "speechless and choked" as he could not make any comments for now.
