Panic as four vehicles got razed in early-morning tanker explosion at Mile-2

There was panic and confusion at the Mile 2 area of Lagos in the early hours of Thursday as a tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol, suddenly overturned in the process of navigating through a dilapidated side of the road.

There was panic and confusion atbthe Mile 2 area of Lagos in the early hours of Thursday as a tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol, suddenly overturned in the process of navigating through a dilapidated side of the road in front of the LACASERA company outwards Mile- 2 Oke, opposite Fagbems Fuel Station, along Apapa -Oshodi Expressway.

The fuel tanker subsequently exploded into a conflagration and getting at least three other vehicles incinerated in the process.

At the time of gathering this report, the conflagration had been finally put out while rescue teams are presently on ground to evacuate burnt vehicles from the road.

According to the Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the incident occurred at 1.00am on Thursday.

Oke-Osanyintolu revealed that the agency received distress calls concerning the exploded tanker which occurred around 1:00am and immediately activated its emergency response plan.

“On arrival, it was discovered that a fuel tanker loaded with PMS had overturned and burst into flames due to the oil spillage. This in turn affected some stationary trailers parked inwards Apapa.

A combined team comprising Lagos Fire, Police, Federal Fire and agency responders have extinguished the flames.

“Operation to remove the affected vehicles is ongoing while road users are encouraged to use alternative routes," Dr Osanyintolu narrated.
