REVEREND Father James Anelu, the priest-in-charge of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ewu-Owa, Ikorodu, was suspended on Monday, February 7, 2022, by the Lagos Archdiocese for banning Igbo songs during mass in the church. Reactions have followed the news till date.

"Nigeria really has a serious problem. There's now bigotry and Igbophobia in church too. Una no go fit dey alright like this", Mefoh said about the incident.

Ichechi reacted by saying that the priest was no different from millions of Nigerians who are not Igbo: "Why are people acting surprised about the Catholic priest that banned Igbo songs??? He’s expressing the feelings of millions of non Igbo in Nigeria".

"Hope the Catholic Priest who banned Igbo songs in his parish in Ikorodu, also banned Igbo tithes and offerings in his Parish? A bigot on cassock, who thought he'd have his way, forgetting there's no tribe or language in the afterlife", Izuchukwu added.

Churches around Lagos are known for incorporating indigenous languages into services and worship.
