Bukayo Saka speaks on Nigerian heritage

ARSENAL winger, Bukayo Saka has shared insights into his Nigerian heritage while explaining the meaning of his Yoruba name.

The 22-year-old player, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, has always embraced his dual nationality and often takes pride in his Nigerian heritage. 

In an interview with the BBC, the football star emphasised the significance of his Nigerian roots and explained the meaning of his Yoruba name.

“It means a lot to me. Obviously growing up with Nigerian parents but I grew up in this country, so both sides mean a lot to me,” he said.

When asked about the meaning of his Yoruba name, Saka proudly translated it, saying, “It means added joy.”

He added, “I like my name. If I remember correctly, I think my grandma gave it to me. I have to double-check with my parents, but I think I’m right.”

A product of Hale End Academy, Bukayo Saka has become an influential player in the Arsenal and England squad, securing his place as a regular both at the national level and club level.
