COVID-19: India records 60,000 new cases, Nigeria with over 1000 fatalities

INDIA has reported more than 60,000 new coronavirus cases for a seventh straight day on Tuesday, as infections moved beyond cities and spread further into smaller towns.

INDIA has reported more than 60,000 new coronavirus cases for a seventh straight day on Tuesday, as infections moved beyond cities and spread further into smaller towns.

According to Reuters, India reported 60,975 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 3.17 million, data from the Federal Health Ministry showed.

Deaths rose by 848, taking the total number to 58,390.

In a similar development in Africa, Nigeria has recorded 1,004 fatalities from COVID-19, according to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, (NCDC).

The total number of existing cases has been reported as 25,548, with 321 new cases, nationwide and only 98 from Lagos.

The Head of Surveillance Department at the NCDC, Elsie Ilori, at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19, in the early hours of today, urged health workers to ensure a high index of suspicion for COVID-19 always. 

"We’re committed to strengthening the capacity of health workers on infection prevention and control to limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission", she said.
