NFF President speaks on Finidi George appointment

THE President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Gusau has spoken up on the appointment of former Super Eagles of Nigeria player, Finidi George as the Head Coach of the senior national team.

The NFF confirmed the appointment of Finidi George as the new Coach of the Super Eagles team on a two-year deal as he is tasked with ensuring the team qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup that would be hosted by USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Gusau explained that the decision to appoint Finidi George as the new boss of the team was not an easy one, but they concluded that it was better to appoint a local Coach. 

Gusau stated: "It wasn't an easy decision. We've to begin to trust our own,” according to a post by former Super Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye. 

“We will give Finidi all the respect and support he needs," the NFF boss added.

As a Manager, he led Enyimba to the Nigerian Premier Football League title in 2022/23 and currently keeping them in the hunt to retain the crown this season.
