Court grants N10 million bail each to #EndBadGovernance protesters

THE Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to ten #EndBadGovernance protesters, with each set at N10 million, with a requirement of one surety in like sum.

According to media reports, the defendants had been charged with treason and other related offences.

Justice Emeka Nwite, presiding over the case, accepted the bail applications, which were argued by the defence counsel.228g

As part of the bail conditions, Justice Nwite ordered that each surety must own landed property in Abuja and present the property documents to the court’s registrar. The judge ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of their bail conditions.

The protesters, including Michael Adaramoye, also known as Lenin; Adeyemi Abayomi; Suleiman Yakubu; and seven others, were arraigned on September 2 by the Federal Government.

The charges, filed on August 30 by the Inspector-General of Police under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/454/2024, included treason, conspiracy to commit a felony, incitement to mutiny, and intent to destabilize the nation. These charges fall under Section 97 of the Penal Code.228f

The case stems from a nationwide protest held between August 1 and 10, where youths demonstrated against economic hardship. The protests escalated into violence in some areas, leading to incidents of looting and vandalism.

Meanwhile, all 10 defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
