THE Vice-Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Lagos West Senatorial District, Chief Babatunde Aboyade has appealed to leaders and members of the party in Alimosho to embrace unity to move the party forward in the constituency and Lagos State in general.
Aboyade made the appeal while addressing the gathering at the APC Egbe-Idimu LGA meeting held at Local Government Primary School, Idimu, Alimosho, Lagos.
The Lagos APC chieftain noted that the acrimonious relationship among party members as a result of loyalty to caucuses rather than the party affected the fortunes of the party negatively during the last general election, adding that the situation regarding the numbers of votes delivered by Alimosho during the 2023 general election calls for sober reflection.
Aboyade pleaded with all party leaders and members to sheath their swords and work for the collective progress of the party, declaring that APC is for everyone.
He appreciated the State Party Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, for working assiduously to harmonise aggrieved members and ensure that they operate as one entity.
According to him, “My visit today is to passionately appeal to all party members in Egbe-Idimu LCDA and Alimosho, in general, to put aside our group differences and work as members of the same party.
“It is important that for us to move our great APC forward, we have to let bygone be bygone and join hands to uplift the party.
“No one can actualise his or her political ambitions by being a member of a caucus alone and this underscores the importance of a political party. Politics is about conflict resolution; there are lots of interests but we must all come together to resolve our differences”.
Aboyade also implored the youth to desist from writing and making unsavoury comments against party leaders and members, adding that as youths, it is essential to work towards lifting party leaders up and not bring them down.
The Lagos West Vice-Chairman further seized the occasion to recognise the efforts of numerous party leaders, including Her Excellency, Princess Joke Orelope-Adefulire, Alhaji Ayinde Enilolobo, Apostle Victor Olusegun Oshinfade, Baba Fetuga, Hon. Abdulwaheed Bello (Sunshine), and others.
Additionally, Aboyade praised the APC party Chairman in the Egbe-Idimu LCDA, Hon. Akibu Soliu (Sanjay), for his efforts at uniting party members, describing him as a “dynamic and intelligent individual”.
In his remarks, Hon. Olowoopejo, the Egbe-Idimu LCDA Chairman, expressed his happiness for the coming together of all party leaders and members, irrespective of caucuses. He disclosed that as the Chairman of Egbe-Idimu LCDA, he made it mandatory for members of his cabinet to relate with one another as members of the same party.
Hon. Olowoopejo asserted that APC in Egbe-Idimu will henceforth operate as one entity and promised that “with the little time I have to spend as council Chairman, my door remains open to everyone”.
On his part, Hon. Soliu stressed that politics is about progress and there is no permanent friend or enemy.
The Egbe-Idimu APC Chairman reported that party leaders at the State level have directed that aspirants for council Chairmanship and Councillorship positions should stop every form of campaign and wait for party guidelines before commencing doing so.
At the meeting, announcements were made regarding the INEC CVR exercise and all members were encouraged to take advantage of the exercise as well as mobilise others to do so.
