THE disgraced and suspended Nigerian Super Cop, Mr Abba Kyari has been allegedly attacked and nearly got murdered by aggrieved inmates at the Kuje Prison in Abuja after they accused him of insincerity in bribe-for-release deals when he was in active service.
According reports by, the attack happened on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, months after Mr Kyari, who is on trial for drug-related offences, was remanded at the prison. His attackers were said to be about 190 and they are mostly in prison for drug offences.
Mr Kyari, 47, a deputy commissioner of police, was a decorated cop and head of the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector-General Police before his fall.
The Kuje attackers claimed that Mr Kyari prosecuted them despite taking bribes from them.
“Inmates claimed that upon arrest, Abba Kyari demanded bribes to kill the case, then still prosecuted them,” a Kuje prison source said.
Although spokesperson for the Nigerian Correction Service, Francis Enobore, denied the attack on Mr Kyari, but Mr Kyari has since been kept in an isolated cell under heavy protection.
Meanwhile, reports state that the aggrieved inmates have continued to threaten Mr Kyari’s life, vowing to kill him unless he returns all the money he supposedly extorted from him.
This threat has led to anofficial recommendation for Mr Kyari to be transferred to a State Security Service of Nigeria (SSS) facility.
