Police Officer arrested for collecting #50,000 bribe from Corps member in Ejigbo

THE Nigerian Police Force has arrested a police officer, identified as ASP Eyitere Joseph, attached to the Meiran division in Lagos state, for allegedly collecting a #50,000 bribe from a Corps member in the Ile-Iwe area of Ejigbo, Lagos on Monday, April 4, 2022.

A viral video of the officer asking the Corp member for the money and thereafter pocketing the white envelope containing the bribe has been circulating online; this viral video eventually led to the identification and arrest of the police officer.

The Acting Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, after viewing the video, gave an update on Twitter, stating that the officer had been apprehended and was under investigation.

He wrote; “ASP Eyitere Joseph, in connection with this case, has been arrested in Lagos. He is being investigated and queried for further disciplinary actions.

“He is attached to Meiran Division, and the DPO Meiran Division has been warned for the first time, that if such happens again, she will be dealt with according to the provisions of the law. We will always act and deliver as expected. We have promised to name and shame. 

“How would a father extort a corps member? Too bad and we condemned that in totality. Thanks.”

He explained further that the DPO of the Meiran division has been warned that she will be sanctioned if such an incident occurs again.
