LAGOS State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the creation of the Tertiary Drains Squad (TDS) in the 57 local councils of Lagos on Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Drainage and Water Resources, made this known at the second edition of a stakeholders’ meeting with Local Council Development Areas on Cleaning and Maintenance of Tertiary Drains in Lagos.

Mr. Igbokwe said that the squads will complement the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang at the state level to make sure that tertiary drains are properly discharged into primary and secondary drains.

According to the Special Adviser, 50 drainage attendants will be employed and would be paid a minimum of N35,000 monthly salary. Mr. Igbokwe also said that the state government will be in charge of paying the wages, the councils would spend less, but achieve more with regards to cleaning tertiary drains.

The meeting, Igbokwe reiterated, is one of the proactive measures put in place for synergy between the state and local councils as it affects drainage channels.

The state government has assured residents, and local authorities of the availability of the state’s drainage engineers and coordinators across all councils for the maintenance, and cleaning of tertiary drains.
