THE Lagos State governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor) has expressed sadness over the news of another collapsed uncompleted seven-storey building in the Victoria Island area of the state in the early hours of Sunday, September 4, 2022, stressing that the constant building collapse in the state is an indication that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government is not alive to its responsibility.

According to a press statement on Monday, September 5, 2022, signed by Gbenga Ogunleye, Head, Media and Communications of Jandor4Governor Campaign Organization, the collapsed building was reported to have trapped at least six persons under the debris and two among them were later reported dead.

Jandor stated that the unfortunate incident could have been avoided if the APC-led government had been alive to its primary responsibility of protection of lives.

The governorship hopeful maintained that no reasonable government would allow the construction of a seven-storey building in a highbrow area of the state without the necessary approval, adding that the excuse given by the government that the owner of the property didn’t get the proper approval is lame and irresponsible.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate lamented that the frequency of building collapse in the state and the attendant human casualties has become abnormal, and blamed the state government for the dereliction of duty and disregard for human life.

While condoling with the families of the dead, Jandor urged the officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to speed up the rescue efforts of other victims yet to be recovered from the collapsed building.

“I commiserate with the families of the dead victims and pray for the safe rescue of those still reportedly trapped in the collapsed building rubble. This re-occurrence of avoidable loss of human life in Lagos must stop,” the statement added.
