THE West African Examination Council, (WAEC) has announced the release of the 2020 West African Senior Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, (WASSCE) results on Monday, November 2.
The announcement was made by the Head of National Office, Patrick Areghan, via the WAEC official Twitter handle, @waecnigeria on Monday, November 2, 2020.
According to Areghan, the Head of National Office acknowledged a total of 1,549,740 candidates registered for the 2020 examination while 1,538,445 candidates eventually sat for the examination.
In the examination, the candidates comprised 780,660 males and 757,785 females, representing 50.74 per cent and 49.26 per cent respectively
The council also extended the registration of WASSCE for private candidates to November 6.
“WASSCE for private candidates(GCE), 2020 second series. Further extension of the registration period. Intending candidates should note that there has been a further extension of the registration period to Friday, November 6, 2020,” the council also said on its Twitter page.
The 2020 WASSCE, which held on August 17, had been earlier scheduled for March but was postponed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic until the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, announced the commencement of the examination in July.
Areghan also revealed that a total of 1,338,348 candidates obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects – with or without English Language and/or Mathematics, while cases of exam malpractice were being investigated by its committee.
He said also said: “The results of 215,149 candidates, representing 13.98 per cent of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice."
