Just in: FIFA bans CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad for financial misconduct

THE international governing body of football, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has banned the president of Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Ahmad Ahmad for five years, for breaching various code of ethics.

President Ahmad Ahmad, 60, is also the Vice President of FIFA and was found to have breached codes relating to the duty of loyalty, offering and accepting gifts, and abuse of position as well as misappropriation of funds.

A FIFA statement read:

"The investigation into Mr Ahmad's conduct from 2017 to 2019 concerned various CAF-related governance issues, including the organisation and financing of an Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, his involvement in CAF dealings with the sports equipment company Tactical Steel and other activities."

The CAF President from Madagascar announced his intention to go for a second term last month in the next CAF election on March 12 in Rabat, Morocco.
