THE President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the adoption of Nigeria’s old national anthem ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’ for use in the Nation.

Media reports state that Tinubu approved the revert on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, which was exactly a year after his inauguration into office.

The national anthem was composed by Lilian Jean Williams in 1960 before it was dropped for Arise O Compatriot in 1978.

Here are the lyrics of the national anthem: Nigeria We Hail Thee’
Nigeria we hail thee
Our own dear native land
Though tribes and tongues may differ
In brotherhood, we stand
Nigerians all are proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.

Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign
In peace or battle, honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.

O God of all creation
Grant this our one request.
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria shall be blessed.
