Lagos NURTW re-elects MC Oluomo as Chairman

THE Lagos State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has re-elected Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo) as its Branch Chairman.

According to media reports, Oluomo, along with his Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Sulyman Ojora, the Treasurer, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle (Sego), and 28 other executive members, were elected unopposed at the 10th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference in Lagos.

The officers were subsequently sworn in by a lawyer, Mr Adejare Kembi.

In his inaugural speech, Akinsanya thanked the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the leadership of the Union’s National Body for their support while promising to continue reforming the Union.

Meanwhile, the State Governor, who was represented by a Director in the Ministry of Transportation, Lateef Tiamiyu, commended the Union, saying, “Gone were the days when NURTW members took to violence to effect leadership change.”

In his remarks, the acting National President, Alhaji Ore, hailed Akinsanya’s emergence and that of other executive members.

Ore said, “Those who emerged victorious from this election must serve in such a way that demonstrates exemplary leadership, capacity, and sacrifice. Both leadership and followership must strive through a collaborative effort to turn the Union’s fortunes for the better.

“Those elected must carry others along. I, therefore, urge you all to, within your limitations, try as much as possible to run an open administration that will be devoid of victimisation and committed to fairness, equity, and justice so that unity and harmony will prevail amongst others and members of this great Union at the various levels.”
