Fire razes Ajah market in Lagos

AN unfortunate fire incident reportedly swept through the Ajah Market near Alesh Bus Stop in Lagos’ Lekki area, on Sunday night, reducing goods worth millions of naira to ashes.

According to media reports, the fire started around 9 p.m., quickly spreading across numerous shops stocked with highly flammable materials.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s (LASEMA) Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the Agency acted quickly to limit the fire and collaborated with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services.

“The LASEMA Response Team, along with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.“Efforts are ongoing to fully extinguish the flames and salvage any remaining valuables,” Oke-Osanyintolu noted.

Fortunately, no one was hurt or killed because traders weren’t there as the market was closed on Sunday, however, the cause of the fire is still being looked into.
