Alimosho Lawmaker warns against ‘leaderless protest’

THE Lagos State House of Assembly Member representing the Alimosho Constituency II, Hon. Kehinde Olaide Joseph has warned against the dangers of leaderless protests, citing the planned #EndBadGovernmentProtests from August 1-10. As Chairman of the Public Account Committee, Joseph emphasised that the absence of leaders in the protest movement makes constructive dialogue challenging and may lead to chaos.

During a 'Matter of Urgent Public Importance' session, Majority Leader Naheem Adams urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to convene a stakeholders' meeting to address the planned protest and prevent a repeat of the devastating 2020 EndSARS protest. Meanwhile, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa stressed the need for proactive measures to protect lives and property, citing the crises in Kenya, Sudan, and Syria as cautionary tales.

Hon. Joseph cautioned, "In times of uncertainty, patience and understanding are crucial. We must work together to find solutions to our challenges, rather than resorting to protests that may escalate into chaos. I urge the youth to be cautious and consider the consequences of their actions."

He added, "Peaceful dialogue is essential to address our problems. The Government is willing to listen, and we must seize this opportunity to make our voices heard."

Other lawmakers, including Hon. Sa'ad Olumoh, commended President Tinubu's efforts to address the country's challenges and urged Nigerians to focus on Governors, highlighting the increase in federal allocations to states under the President's leadership.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has appealed to parents to discourage their children from joining the protest and emphasised the importance of peaceful dialogue in addressing the nation's challenges.
