AS part of preparations towards the forthcoming 2023 elections slated for Saturday, February 25 and Saturday, March 11, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released a seven-step voting procedure to educate the electorates on the voting process.
In the procedure chart released online, INEC stated that voting is scheduled to start by 8:30 am and electorates are to present their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for accreditation using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). Electorates are also advised to confirm that their names are on the voters’ register of their polling unit.
After the confirmation of names on the voters’ register, electorates will then be authenticated with the BVAS through their fingerprints or facials. Once accredited, electorates will then be issued with a ballot paper and directed to the voting cubicle where they will be allowed to make their choice in secret and drop the marked ballot paper in the appropriate ballot box.
The last step of the voting procedure states that voters can either leave after voting or stay 300 metres away from the voting area to witness vote sorting and counting.
