LAGOS State Government, on Thursday, January 20th, 2022, gave 100 small business owners in the Alimosho Local Government Area of the state smart PoS phones to boost their businesses digitally.

The State plans to share smart PoS phones to one million small business owners through the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (CARES) programme dubbed Lagos-CARES.

At the presentation of the PoS phones, the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, Mrs. Teju Abisoye, said that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is aware of the negative effects of the COVID-19 lockdown on residents of the state and hopes to support residents in every economically beneficial way.

“For Operations Grant, conditional grants would be given to support ongoing operational expenditure, bringing about employment and job creation grants. This covers operating expenses such as payroll, rent, utilities, alternative power supply among others. It also excludes taxes and regulatory levies", Mrs. Tẹjú Abisoye said.

The Lagos CARES programme is a statewide intervention that aims to mitigate the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on small and medium scale businesses. This state level intervention is backed by the World Bank and focuses 70% of its resources on women who are the more vulnerable business owners.
