FLOODING: Famuyiwa warns Agbado Oke-Odo residents against indiscriminate waste disposal

THE Executive Chairman of the Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA, Hon. David Famuyiwa has warned residents of the LCDA against the indiscriminate dumping of waste in water channels, urging them to rather patronise the LAWMA Private Sector Participants (PSP) involved in waste collection and disposal.

The council Mayor gave the charge during the visit of the representatives of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment And Water Resources to the Council Secretariat.

He called on the people of Agbado Oke-Odo to as a matter of duty be conscious of their environment. He emphasised the need to desist from dumping refuse on the waterways and places that are not marked for such, stressing that flood risk is increasing at an alarming rate all over the world, thereby posing a threat to people, assets, and the environment.

He noted, “Disease-carrying organisms tend to spread when we don’t keep our environment clean, and as residents, we need to ensure that our homes and markets are clean. Our drains must be well desilted.” 2f86c834-19f2-4397-ab37-881ac4358769

He reiterated that his administration will strengthen interventions to ensure a safe and clean environment for all, stressing that anyone who violates the law would be prosecuted as it will no longer be business as usual for violators.

Famuyiwa said his administration is saddled with the responsibility of bringing development closer to the people. He would continue to execute more drainage projects across the community while the completed drainage project would remarkably reduce the water overflow such as the completed drainage in Abule-Oki.

Also, he assured the Ministry that his LCDA will continue to support the regulatory agencies to enforce compliance with standard regulations while curbing all unsanitary behaviours by applying the required penalties, monitoring, enforcement and compliance activities of the Ministry and its agencies to improve environmental sustainability.
